白刚玉是以优质的铝氧粉为原料，经电熔冶炼而成。它具有颜色洁白、硬度高、韧性低、纯度高、自锐性优、磨削力强、发热量小、效率高、耐酸碱腐蚀、耐高温、热稳定性好等特点，它不但是高级的磨料磨具材料，且还是高级研磨、抛光材料等，用它加工制成的磨具，适用于磨削高碳钢、高速钢及各种不锈钢。它还广泛适用于精密铸造、钢铁耐火、化工耐火、95电瓷、装饰瓷等特种陶瓷以及日常生活用瓷、军工、电子等高科技行业。
